As an adolescent and pediatric emergency medicine specialist with an interest in reproductive health, I was asked to write about adolescents and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). I first joined the PEM section of ACEP as a PEM Fellow and immediately found mentorship and connection. Since then, I have benefitted from collaboration and education that has led to my professional growth. Therefore, I was honored to take on the role of Chair of this section, especially during its 30th anniversary year.
As a group, the section’s goal is to continue to engage members in key areas: advocacy, clinical quality, research, medical education, and personal/professional development. We plan to accomplish this by continuing to build upon and expand our existing web presence and incorporate social media. We aim to provide information and resources to our members, as well as continue to interface with EMRA by providing ongoing mentorship.read more
